See, I told you not to conform…(Day 4 of praying for my husband)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is— his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2 (NIV)
So today, Lord,
let My Beloved be steadfast.
Transformed by You.
Strong (made so by You).
And let me be found at his right hand.
Amen.

In a very interesting blog entitled Against Conformity, Charles lehardy writes, “non-conformity means pushing back. It means resisting, exerting yourself against cultural forces that are contrary to the teachings of Scripture. It means paddling upstream, against the current. Christianity is not for those who want to float with the tide. It's about swimming, not drifting.”

I had an object lesson about drift. As we are winding our way through the end of one US Presidency and into another, I threw a bit of a tantrum. I drifted with the social media tide and shared something innocuous but silly before considering how it might be received. In my own way,  I paid for it. I apologized because that's what accountable grown-ups do, deleted the message, and made amends. It got me to thinking though...let’s not be drifters, tossed by moods or trends, okay?

As I consider my prayers for my husband, I don’t want to be following a drifter.  I want to follow and love someone who is steadfast and accountable. Swimming, not floating along. As mother to two who will (in ways large or small, as will each of our children) rule and change their world, I ought to be charging ahead with goals in mind, not floating where the tide might carry me…they are always watching.  I don’t know who else might be watching, but my prayer is always, “Lord, if someone should see me, please let it be that I was caught in the act of doing Your Will.”

So today, Lord, let My Beloved be steadfast. Transformed by You. Strong (made so by You). And let me be found at his right hand.

Amen.
