Dear Chihuahua of Fear,

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 14:27 (ESV)

You bite (and I don’t mean with teeth). You stink. A worthy opponent would face me. You are not worthy; you’re a punk. You nip at my ankles, yapping incessantly wearing me down like Chinese water torture with fur and four feet. I’m not afraid of the big things. Big things require focus, all of my attention. I have a big dog, and though he can be scary, when he’s being aggressive or menacing, he has my full attention; it is critical that he knows that I am not (do not appear) afraid. You are different; insidious; potentially deadly. Why? You don’t seem dangerous.  And that is what makes you deadly.
you might not stop yapping,
but I’ve stopped listening.
I’ve got a new playlist-His Peace.
bark on, mutt. You're noisy, but I’m out.
Peace.

Who’s afraid of a Chihuahua? Nobody in their right mind, right? You could swift kick it once and make the problem go away. Except that this little fear moves fast. This fear shows up unexpectedly. This fear isn’t like a big dog, whom you can choose to cross the street to avoid. Who crosses to avoid a Chihuahua? Even if you did, would you admit it?

You see, this little mangy mutt speaks fear, in that ugly, whispering voice of the enemy, daring us to move. Daring us to dream. Daring us to succeed. I'm not having it. I hate you, little dog, and I refuse to listen to your noise anymore. I'm listening to something better.

My something better is music to my ears. Peace is my new playlist.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

So you might not stop yapping, but I’ve stopped listening. I’ve got a new playlist-His. So bark on, mutt. I might be afraid, but I’m out.

Peace.
