Rest (Five Minute Friday)

Mi familia, my writing sisters and I, my  tribe, we stay up way too late to write en masse. We start with one word and it’s off to the races. It’s not easy, and we have rules. You should try it sometime, or at least read what my lovelies put on the page.  Welcome to Five Minute Friday. STOP, DROP, and WRITE!!!

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking (harder than it sounds)
2. Link back
here and invite others to join in.
3. Visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments.
OK, are you ready? Come on and join the fun!
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

I’ve been forced to get some, rest, that is. It happens occasionally, when I don’t slow down before I should. I can be a little hard headed. This time, the stress I’ve been carrying (by the way, it never appears that I’m stressed about anything, and that is likely a big part of the problem) went to my left side, and my back muscles have seized. It’s okay, it happens, and thankfully, there are far more serious problems in the world than my aching back. For my aching back, I am forced to rest.

Rest. Come to me, all ye who are worn out and pushed far beyond your limits. I know that’s not what it says, but you know what I mean. I hear my wise and wonderful father’s voice in my ears, may God rest his beloved soul…you’d better slow down before…advice to which I never really listened. It wasn’t that I didn’t appreciate its wisdom, or trust that Daddy knew what he was talking about, it’s just that we always believe we’ll have time to rest later. We’ll have time to slow down later. We’ll make time, take time, later.

Let me tell you what this last year taught me about later…you might not get it. Rest, now, because you are weary. Rest now, because you can. Rest, because it is your obligation to the temple. Rest, because that is what Your Father in Heaven commands you to do. You’d better slow down before...you run out of time.
