Day 8 of 31- Fallow ground…

Day 8 of 31-
Fallow ground…

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.  So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NIV)

Walking the dog this morning, I realized I needed to be a little more broken. I no longer fear being broken. I understand the process of my brokenness is like gardening. Sometimes the soil gets compacted.  Sometimes it develops a hardpan.  We get complacent, overconfident, and forget to rely upon God. So, I was walking along this morning, listening to what was supposed to be a randomizing algorithm  (remember, there is nothing random in the Kingdom of God) on my iPod,  a the music reminded me that I am merely a place where the Holy Spirit might rest and remain. But, like a garden with compacted or hardpan soil,  I need work. Before I can start working on the dream, I need to prepare the ground for the planting of good seed.

So, the second seven days are for preparing the soil, which we can do. We study, we pray. We surrender our will and our autonomy in favor of letting God be God, and then we wait. Because you see, we plant seeds, we imagine possibilities, we even dream dreams, but only God makes things grow.

Stay tuned…
