Connect (you are my vine)…

Happy Friday, peeps! I so look forward to praying and playing with you in this delightful and blessed game.   I am grateful for the discipline FMFs offer.  So, I am here again if you will have me.  To readers, please enjoy another Five Minute Friday.
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking (harder than it sounds)
2. Link back
here and invite others to join in.
3. Visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments.
OK, are you ready? Come on and join the fun!

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
John 15:4 (NIV)

Connect (you are my vine)…

Every morning we connect. My mother and I live in different time zones, and try to see each other at least once a year. Every morning we connect. It used to be a call mid-morning; me, sensitive to her need to rest when she can as primary caregiver to her ailing mother would call not too early, and often, when my day took over, I’d miss the chance to chat. Not anymore. Every day we connect.

I started blogging daily, and subscribed her via email so we could stay connected. Now, every morning when I awake, I rush to the computer to hear her voice in my head, her first thoughts on what I’ve written. I feel as though I write for her, to see her smile, to show her the things she’s taught me or the experiences I remember.

Every morning we connect. She is my piece of the vine, both literally and spiritually. Sometimes she asks me from whence where the wisdom comes…I say, “From Daddy, and from you.” She encourages my faith, sometimes marveling that I can be so strong. Every day I remind her, I’m only being who I saw everyday. She is my vine. I am connected to her. I am connected to God through her. She is the reason I know Him. She is the reason I am connected to Him.
Last night, she sent me this message…
Lead me Guide me along the way,  for if you lead me I will not stray. Lord let me walk each day with Thee, Lead me Oh Lord, lead me. When my day begins with God in front, I have a good day. My problem is I try to control things. That’s wrong. God must control everything with me following his lead. Reading your blog has made a big difference in my attitude and the daily outcome of each situation I'm faced with.
You have essentially turned my life around. I thank God for you, your mind, faith and the glue that holds you together. Thank you God for my daughter. I love you. Mom

Silly mommy, you make me smile as you bless me. You nurtured my mind, you taught me faith, you (and the spirit of my daddy that lives on in us) are the glue that connects me--to you, to God, to the legacy of strong women and families that birthed us and the warrior women to come.

Every morning we connect, and I thank God we are connected. My connection to you is a tangible reminder that God is good.
