The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous run to it, and they're safe.
Proverbs 18:10 (NIV)
I give myself permission to see myself stronger; God is in me.
Remember Hide and Seek? Remember the awesome relief of “olly olly oxen free” which meant it was safe to come out? Words have tremendous power.
There is Power in the Name. How many times have you cried out, “Oh, Lord.” How many nights have you whispered, “God help me.” According to Carmelite nun and author Sister Wendy Beckett,
"There is power in the very Name, something all pagan religions know. To know someone's name means to have power over them, however external: they will, after all, turn round for you if you name them aloud, stop in their tracks, look up." "Jesus has freely given us his name, which means 'Saviour'. It has extraordinary power: do we use it?"
How do we use it? More like a "get out of jail free card" than a daily praise? Do you call regularly, or only when you're in trouble? Aren't you grateful (I am) that He knows our names? Aren't you grateful that no matter how regularly (or not) we call, He hears AND answers? Are you that reliable? Are you that good a friend?
Do you ever remember playing Hide and Seek and hiding so well no one came to look for you? Can you imagine God giving up?
I know what I know…I am not alone. I am thankful that He is better than me at being counted upon. I am thankful that my obedience is rewarded with blessings and the rest of me is covered in Grace. I am thankful that that when I have been invariably human, I can try to hide but He will seek me out. I am thankful that there is power in the Name; He taught me to call upon Him, and He never fails. I am thankful that He loves me, because I am reminded that God is good.
