Quieted by His love…

The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV)

Not much else to say after an open like that.  Yesterday, I wrote, “our lives are cluttered with useless noise; things that will not matter in the long run, petty misunderstandings, mistakes, missteps, things that stifle our peace and siphon away our happiness.” Imagine all noise being quieted by love.

Yesterday was like any other day, filled with ups and downs.  A friend called, clearly distressed, and what I can say (and what I did say to her) is this.  It’s one thing to fall off a cliff.  Your issues are simple; you will live or you will die. Standing in the space where the fallen once stood is infinitely more daunting…you will obsess, perhaps ad nauseum, about falling.

Zephaniah 3 paints the story of a fallen world.  God is not just heartbroken by what has become of Jerusalem; it’s time to clean house.  “Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!    She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God." Zephaniah 3:1-2  Despite their circumstances, and despite yours, there is a promise.  By verse 17, there is the promise of rejoicing.  There is singing.  There is the assurance that you will be quieted with His Love.

Yesterday I explained to my son that that there is always a reason to be unhappy.  If that is so, then there is always a reason to BE happy.  I choose happy.  I choose peace.  I choose not just to be quiet, but to be quieted with His Love. Your circumstances will change, but not always immediately.  It is always immediately possible to change your perspective.  Choose.

Today I considered that there are unlimited ways to assert, as I always do when I finish writing  “God is Good.”  He is. But it’s time for something new.  I am choosing to declare a change to my perspective.  Today’s lesson reminds me that I live a life overflowing with abundance, by God’s Grace.  My cup is never empty

  1. Tara, I believe in coincidences and God's whispered words. When I began reading your post, I couldn't believe that these were thoughts that had been coursing through my mind all morning! Thank you for stating them so eloquently. :)

  2. Great post! His love is so powerful. I would have loved to link to this post, just missed the linky but I thought I would add my post down here :) I too posted on the power of the Love of God :)
