Modern Fellowship (a la Modern Family)…

He Treats Me to a Feast; Notes from my Abundant Life

Modern Fellowship (a la Modern Family)…

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

“Today's Modern Family comes in all shapes and sizes. Just ask these three families. Jay recently married Gloria. Now Jay is trying hard to keep up with his much younger and hotter Colombian wife, along with her passionate pre-teen son, Manny. Claire is having a hard time raising her own family. Her husband Phil is great, except that he thinks he's "down" with their three kids, much to all their embarrassment. And, Mitchell and his enthusiastic partner Cameron have just made a major life change by adopting a Vietnamese baby named Lily. “

Life in the 21st Century is different than the lives our mothers or grandmothers lived.  It would only make sense that our fellowship would evolve to keep pace with the times.  Herein lies a modern tale…

Earlier this week, a dear friend called in need; we used to live less than 3 miles away from one another.  Though she’s now moved more than 600 miles from me, via cell, we still hang out, although she doesn’t get to walk the dog with me anymore…She needed someone to talk to, somebody who could relate, and God let me be that person.  Thank You, Lord.

We did what we usually do, we caught up, we laughed, we sighed, we prayed.  In the end, I told her not to worry, because I was planning to call her in a few days to say “I told you so…”

I then did what usually follows when a sisterfriend reaches out in need…I called up a couple mutual friends and asked that they remain in prayer…via text. Modern Fellowship, thank You, Lord.

This morning, anticipating the minor procedure that prompted her to call me, I prayed, and then sent and received a couple texts with my girl…

Me:  God goes before you and my prayers are with you…
Her: Thanks, hunny.  Y dropped me off and prayed that trouble away
Me: Amen.  J also laid it on the altar (one of our seriously praying friends)
Her: Tell her thx.  Sniff sniff, I cn always count on my gurls
Me: Ride or die, baby, ride or die
Her: LOL…
then...
Her:They are done already.  Big baby me…
Me: YUP (accompanies by a snarky emoticon)

I love a good Christian “I told you so.” It’s another way of saying “Amen.” “He is good.” “He does not fail.” Because when things get rough, you need a ride or die partner, and there is none better than God, whom we represent to one another when we most need it.  So, for all my gurls, who have stood beside me, propped me up, and encouraged me when I was completely out of gas, y’all told me so, and I thank you.  In the echoes of your loving mocking laughter at me, I hear once again, that God is Good.
